Dr. Ricks was one of many leaders from the Commonwealth of Virginia invited to the Governor's Mansion in Richmond to witness the Governor proclaim February 2025 as Black History Month. Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne Youngkin were wonderful hosts describing the history of the mansion, displaying many portraits designed by Black artists, and highlighting many prominent and successful Black business owners from around the State.
There was a choir presentation from a talented group of students from Hampton University. Additionally, Ms. Virginia played piano and sang for the group. Dr. Ricks was honored to be in attendance and represented Potomac Valley Church, led by Pastor Will Archer.
The proclamation acknowledges those who have paved the way for Black Virginians from Maggie Lena Walker to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears. It also recognizes the many challenges Black Virginians have faced and overcome as well as the work that still needs to be done to create a just and equal society for all.
