Dr. Ricks and Mrs. Tracy Moore met at the Women in Fire Conference held in October 2021 in Spokane, WA. Ricks provided a training on behalf of the International Association of Fire Chiefs on workplace bullying prevention during the conference. Moore has served as a Minneapolis firefighter for over 20 years. Dr. Ricks has served as an emergency medical technician and most recently as an instructor and new member committee member for Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department for over 10 years.
The connection at the Women in Fire Conference was made when Ricks purchased a copy of The Fire She Fights book that Moore had just released and Ricks provided a copy of her book Bullied at Work...A Journey of Growth & Perseverance to Moore. Ricks and Moore found that they had quite a bit in common when it came to some experiences in the workplace and stayed in touch following the interaction.
Ricks greatly enjoyed reading Moore's book and seeing how challenging experiences could turn into triumph for a group of female firefighters described in the book. Moore inquired about sharing Ricks' review about the book in an updated printed copy of the book and Ricks agreed. Now, the newly printed version of The Fire She Fights features book reviews by Dr. Ricks, Captain Brenda Berkman, Captain Jenn Dawkins, and more!
